Quantum Comms is a well-established company specialising in Rigging, Civils, Comms, EWP and plant hire with a long history of delivering complex projects in the telecommunication field. Currently based in Victoria with presence a in Queensland, NSW , SA and WA, with the ability to service Clients Australia wide.

About the Job

Due to expansion in our industry, we are seeking an apprentice Mechanic to inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair Elevated Work Platforms, including scissor lifts, boom lifts, and truck-mounted access equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, with a commitment to safety and compliance.

About You

Experience in Scania, MAN and Volvo.

Great problem solving skills and being able to think outside the square

Mechanically / electronically minded

Basic MIG welding

Great communication and organisational skills

An understanding of quality, safety and environmental systems and principals

Appropriately skilled with MS applications including excel and word

Skills:

Eager to learn with a strong commitment to continuous improvement and safety

Excellent communication skills in English; personable and professional

Team player with the ability to take direction and collaborate effectively

Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills

Well-organised, reliable, and able to meet deadlines under pressure

Duties and Tasks

Coordinate servicing and maintenance for all Quantum Comms plant and equipment

Perform scheduled maintenance, repairs, and inspections on EWP and other machinery

Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults using tools and service manuals

Dismantle, repair, and reassemble engines, transmissions, and mechanical components as required

Replace worn or defective parts and ensure components are assembled to manufacturer specifications

Conduct pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards

Perform routine services such as oil changes, lubrication, and engine tune-ups to ensure optimal performance and compliance

Test and adjust mechanical systems post-repair to verify proper function

Use diagnostic equipment and software to test components and identify issues

Maintain accurate service records, job sheets, and compliance documentation

Identify and order spare parts for stock and urgent repairs; liaise with suppliers and internal departments

Prepare equipment for hire or resale, ensuring it meets safety and operational standards

Provide mechanical support in the field when required

Comply with Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements for Quality (ISO 9001), OH&S (ISO 45001), and Environment (ISO 14001)

Report non-conformities and suggest improvements to maintenance processes and systems

Qualifications/Tickets/Licenses

Currently studying/ apprentice

Current Australian car driver’s licence (HR licence preferred)

White Card; National Police Check

First Aid & CPR, Forklift licence – preferred

High Risk Work Licence (preferred)

Experience servicing EWP, forklifts, cranes, or heavy vehicles

Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems

Able to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and drawings

Familiar with relevant Australian Standards (e.g. AS 2550.10)

Physically fit; comfortable working at heights or in confined spaces
