About the position

The City is seeking a dynamic and community-minded individual to join its vibrant Community Development team.

As a Community Development Officer, you will help deliver innovative programs and events that celebrate diversity, build local networks and empower residents and community groups to lead change.

This role contributes to a wide range of capacity-building initiatives, including delivering community projects and services, assisting local groups with grant support, and managing the Connect@Kenwick facility to strengthen local participation. You will also play a key role in major community events, including coordinating the Global Village at the City’s annual Fusion Festival.

Reporting to the Senior Community Development Officer, this position is part of a collaborative and purpose-driven team within the Community Capacity Development branch. The team works in partnership with residents, local agencies, and a diverse network of stakeholders to build on community strengths and address local needs.

Please note: This position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

What we are looking for

To be successful, you must be able to demonstrate:

Experience working in the community development sector

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Effective program and project management skills

Well-organised with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines

Ability to build strong relationships and work with diverse communities

Essential requirements

Driver’s licence

First Aid qualification

Current National Police Clearance (less than three months old) Please note: This is not essential to apply for the role but will be required at a later stage as it is an appointment condition.

Desirable requirements

Tertiary qualifications in Community Development, Social Science or related field

Experience working with volunteers and community groups
