Role Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Plastics Technician to join our team, specializing in extrusion production lines used for manufacturing plastic piping systems. This is a hands-on technical role requiring experience with extrusion processes, hydraulic controls, and quality testing. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and troubleshooting extrusion machines and downstream equipment while ensuring consistent product quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Extrusion Process Monitoring & Maintenance:

Monitor the performance of extrusion machines, including extruders, vacuum motors, cutter machines, air compressors, and pumps.

Inspect valves, filters, and hydraulic services to ensure efficient production flow.

Perform preventative maintenance and carry out timely repairs on hydraulic and mechanical components.

Adjust machine settings to optimize product output and reduce downtime.

Hydraulic Control Systems:

Operate and maintain hydraulic systems critical to the extrusion process.

Troubleshoot issues on equipment such as pullers, cutters, and vacuum units.

Maintain hydraulic pressure and flow specifications to ensure stable, continuous production.

Pipe Quality Assurance & Testing:

Use precision tools such as callipers and micrometres to check product dimensions.

Conduct pressure and leak testing to confirm pipe integrity and performance.

Record quality control data and work with production teams to resolve any discrepancies.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

Diploma in Plastic Processing and Testing or a relevant technical field (or equivalent industry experience).

Experience:

Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role within a plastics extrusion or pipe manufacturing environment.

Proven background in working with extrusion machines and hydraulic systems.

Technical Skills:

Competent with mechanical measuring tools and quality control instruments.

Familiarity with HDPE and PE pipe extrusion processes.

Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical and hydraulic systems.

Soft Skills:

High attention to detail and a commitment to safety and quality.

Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Ability to work independently and take initiative in solving production challenges.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and move heavy materials or equipment.

Comfortable working in an industrial setting with machinery and variable conditions (heat, noise, etc.).
