The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Director, Knowledge, Research and Evaluation to provide a critical role within Integrity, Regulation and Legal Services.
About the Business Unit
Gaming and Liquor (G&L) advises the Minister for Casino, Gaming & Liquor Regulation on the development and implementation of liquor and gambling legislation and regulation, and on current and emerging gambling and liquor-related issues.
The Business Unit is responsible for delivering and further developing the Victorian Government's strategic response to liquor and gambling issues and for developing and implementing the government's policy on the various gambling licensing processes. It is the primary government point of reference for industry, community and government on liquor and gaming issues.
About the Role
The Director, Knowledge, Research and Evaluation leads the Knowledge, Research and Evaluation Branch within G&L. Reporting to the Executive Director and, as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, this role plays a key role in delivering the Business Unit's vision, mission and strategic priorities relating to reducing gambling harm.
The Knowledge, Research and Evaluation Branch has four key functions to help reduce gambling harm: building the evidence base, sharing the body of gambling knowledge, using the evidence, and improving research capacity and process.
In consultation with the Executive Director and key stakeholders, the role sets the strategic direction for the Knowledge, Research and Evaluation function, including overseeing the development and implementation of a targeted research agenda, evaluation program and knowledge translation program to expand understanding of key gambling issues and support the strategic policy responses to existing, new and emerging issues across the portfolio. It also actively engages across government to effectively contribute to the whole of government response to gambling harm. The role ensures that there is a strong evidence base underpinning the business unit's work and the wider response to gambling harm.
Some of your duties will include:
- Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive, high quality and relevant knowledge, research and evaluation strategy and agenda, working within a Public Health framework and context.
- Lead and coach the Knowledge, Research and Evaluation Branch to inspire innovation, creativity, and performance.
- Contribute to the leadership of the Business Unit and provide strategic advice to the Executive Director and Senior Leadership Team, as required.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A record of achievement in applied research in an academic or government context, or in data gathering and analysis in a government research area similar to, or comparable with gaming and gambling research.
- Sound experience in and involvement with large and complex research projects within a public health context.
- Extensive experience working with academics and universities on the planning, scoping and delivery of major research projects.
- Thorough understanding and experience in evaluating large scale programs and services.
Qualifications/requirements
- A relevant tertiary qualification with post graduate specialisation in public health and health sciences or a related field is required.
