Prescott Primary Northern is looking for an SSO to provide extra student and teacher assistance across various year levels. The position will be a 6-month contract for 2025, 3 days per week during the school term from 8.15am to 4.00pm.
Applicants will need to have experience working with children in an educational setting and a minimum of Certificate III in Education Support. The successful applicant will require a current Working With Children Check, First Aid, and Responding to Abuse and Neglect training, or be willing to complete these requirements before commencing the role.
Applicants for the above position will need to be a committed follower of the Christian faith, support the philosophy of Christian Education, and be in regular church attendance.
Role of School Services Officer (SSO)
The School Services Officer (SSO) must possess a wide variety of skills and be able to work with both adults and children in a cooperative and compassionate manner across the school community. Good organisational skills, patience, flexibility, creativity, and an ability to build relationships with children, teachers and parents are also skills that will stand you in good stead.
They may also be called on to work one-on-one with students who may have been diagnosed with a learning/physical disability, or who may be undiagnosed, who are challenged in accessing the learning opportunities of the Australian Curriculum as delivered in their classroom.
Desired Qualifications:
• Certificate III in Education Support
• WWCC (Working With Children Check)
• Responding to Abuse and Neglect Certificate
• First Aid Certificate
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• An ability to relate to students
• Good communication skills – including reading, writing and mathematical skills
• An ability to show initiative
• Ability to accept direction and supervision for the effective support of children (individually or in small groups), in a variety of different curriculum areas
• Ability to work effectively with children, teachers and administrators
• Ability to work independently to support the creation and maintenance of classroom and school resources
• Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment
• Ability to maintain basic files and records
• Ability to use office equipment competently (photocopier, laminator, binding machine, computer, etc.)
• Competent in IT use
• Patience, flexibility and creativity
Nature of Work:
• Work in collaboration with classroom teachers, the Inclusive Education Coordinator and other teachers to provide support and instruction to students with learning needs who may require in-class, small group or one-on-one support
• Implement programs for learning support of individuals and small groups of students in literacy, numeracy, gross motor skills, Reading Program and other programs as needed under the direction of the Inclusive Education Coordinator
• Report to the classroom teacher on the progress of identified students who have received individualised or small group support
• Preparing the classroom for lessons, e.g. setting up equipment, tidying up and keeping the classroom in good order
• Be involved in developing support materials
• Attend appropriate professional development sessions as appropriate, then share information with colleagues and class teachers if applicable (supporting students/asthma training/ASD etc.)
• Be available to support teachers on school excursions/camps, if requested to do so
