The Role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Part-Time Senior Accountant/Tax Specialist to join our team at Russ Maddock & Co. You will prepare and review, tax returns and financial statements with precision and efficiency, while contributing to our supportive workplace. This role offers the opportunity to work and advise on Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSFs) as well as business and individual returns and provides potential to learn, grow, and advance within our firm.
Key Responsibilities:
· Prepare, and review individual, company, trust, and SMSF tax returns and financial statements in compliance with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requirements.
· Provide expert tax advice and solutions, including SMSF compliance and planning.
· Manage and oversee financial reporting, including preparation of financial statements, BAS (Business Activity Statements), STP (Single touch payroll) IAS (Instalment Activity Statements) and FBT (Fringe Benefits Tax) returns.
· Conduct detailed reviews and supervision of work prepared by junior accountants to ensure accuracy and compliance.
· Liaise and interview with clients to gather information, resolve queries, and maintain strong professional relationships.
· Assist with tax planning and advisory services to optimize client outcomes.
· Ensure timely completion of tasks, meeting deadlines with high productivity.
· Stay updated on Australian tax legislation, SMSF regulations, and accounting standards.
· Mentor, train and support junior team members, fostering a collaborative environment.
· Contribute to process improvements and adoption of technologies like XERO, BGL and Ignition software to enhance efficiency.
Skills and Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in business or commerce majoring in accounting is essential.
· CPA or CA qualification or currently completing preferred but not essential.
· Registered Tax Agent desirable but not essential
· Minimum 5 years' experience in Australian public practice, including demonstrated expertise in complex individual and business taxation, SMSF administration, and Division 7A compliance
· Experience managing a portfolio of 500+ clients including SMSFs, trusts, and companies
· Advanced knowledge of Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSF) compliance and reporting requirements.
· Proven ability to prepare and review complex tax returns, including SMSFs.
· Excellent communication skills to explain complex financial and tax matters clearly to clients and team members.
· Exceptional time management and organisational skills, with a focus on meeting deadlines and maintaining high productivity.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality work.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
· Proactive approach to professional development and staying current with industry trends.
· Must have permanent Australian working rights
· Must pass police background check and provide references from previous employers
