Macquarie College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Learning Assistant to join our passionate Senior School team (Years 7-12). MC is an aspirational, faith-based learning community, where the pursuit of excellence is nurtured in an inclusive, Christ-centred environment.
The position is full-time on an initial 12 month contract (with the potential to extend) commencing Term 3 2025 (Monday 21st July).
Rostered hours are:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 8.00am – 3.30pm
Tuesday: 8.00am – 4.30pm
In collaboration with teachers, Learning Assistants play a crucial role in supporting students with diverse learning needs within the classroom setting. This role entails several key responsibilities:
Assessment and Responsiveness: Learning Assistants should be adept at using their initiative to assess and respond to students' individual learning requirements effectively.
Independent Work and Time Management: They are expected to work independently and manage their time efficiently to provide timely support to students.
Task Adaptation and Scaffolding: Learning Assistants must possess the ability to adapt and scaffold tasks as necessary to facilitate students' learning progress.
Building Relationships: Building positive rapport with both students and teachers is essential to creating a conducive learning environment.
In addition to these skills and qualities, Learning Assistants should have a strong understanding of the K-12 school environment, including familiarity with timetabling and an understanding of the NCCD. This knowledge enables effective collaboration within the broader teaching community.
It's important to note that Macquarie College occasionally hosts school camps, and Learning Assistants may be called upon to support students during these trips.
Essential Criteria

Driven to achieve the best outcomes for the student, parents, staff and the broader MC community within the framework of MC’s Strategic Intent.
A strategic researcher and creative and critical thinker with a demonstrated capacity to collaboratively contribute to the ongoing adaptive build-out of a best-practice, future-focused K-12 learning programs.
Minimum 2-5 years experience working as a Learning Assistant in a Senior School and relevant Teacher Aide qualifications in Education Support.

Intellectually and emotionally intelligent with the skills and dispositions to deliver targeted programs and initiatives to support young people with a diverse range of learning needs.
Demonstrate initiative, under supervision, to contribute to the collaborative design and implementation of appropriate learning tasks.
Guided by a strong ethical framework, morally courageous and judicious in decision-making.
Driven to achieve best-practice learning and wellbeing outcomes for each young person, their families, their peers, leaders and the broader MC community within the framework of MC’s Strategic Intent.
A strategic researcher and creative and critical thinker with a demonstrated capacity to, under the guidance of the K-12 MC Learn Leader, collaboratively contribute to the ongoing adaptive build-out of a best-practice, future-focused, Christ-centred K-12 learning programs.
Ensuring that their day-to-day practice as a paraprofessional educator aligns with the published expectations of the school.
When supporting learning in Design Labs (or like spaces):
Intellectually and emotionally intelligent with the skills and dispositions to work in a design lab space incorporating the use of multiple machines and devices (E.g., CNC routers, laser cutters, 3D printers, various hand and power tools and workshop electronics).
The capacity to work with various materials and techniques used in the production of individualised student projects.
Employment at MC is subject to, and inclusive of, the following conditions:
1. A successful and cleared ‘Working with Children Check’ prior to commencing employment.
2. A three-month probationary period.
3. Adherence to the Staff Code of Conduct.
4. Relevant qualifications Teacher Aide Qualifications. (E.g., Certificate III in Education Support or Certificate IV in Education Support or other relevant qualification).
5. Other conditions as determined by the terms of the Support Enterprise Agreement and applicable College policies.

About Macquarie College
Our Beginnings
Macquarie College traces its beginnings to July 1901 when the Junior School was opened in Hamilton. The College transferred to Kemp Street, Hamilton in 1933 providing primary and secondary schooling through to the Leaving Certificate. In June 1994, the College program was relocated to the new site providing educational services from the Pre-School years (Ages 3-5) through to the Year 12 Higher School Certificate.

The College is located on a 8 hectare site on Lake Road, Wallsend (near Newcastle) and provides quality Christian education for approximately 60 Preschool, 360 Junior School and 410 Senior School students.
