About the role
Mater Private Hospital Brisbane’s Haematology/Oncology Ward (8 East) has an opportunity for two passionate and motivated Registered Nurses to join our team. There are two positions available on a permanent part time basis working 64 hours per fortnight based at South Brisbane. The successful candidates will be available to work a variety of shifts including night shift and weekends.
Ward 8 East is a 28-bed haematology/oncology/palliative care ward encompassing a range of diseases. We provide inpatient anti-cancer drug therapies and autologous transplant service, management of disease and treatment related side-effects.
Salary range: $41.74 - $53.53 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
You will become an integral part of the team that is passionate about making a difference in the lives of those you care for, while making a positive contribution to the overall standard of care delivered by the unit. You will join a team of highly skilled multidisciplinary professionals, and your enthusiasm and dedication for nursing will be highly valued within a supportive and professional environment.
Whilst maintaining the highest level of clinical standards for the unit you will be responsible for:
- Achieving optimal patient outcomes throughout their disease trajectory
- To ascertain and document patient’s goals of care
- Demonstrating clinical expertise and knowledge of anti-cancer treatment administration, central venous line management, blood management and the management of patients undergoing autologous stem cell transplantation
- Implementing strategies to ensure that quality and risk management are integrated into service provision
- Maintaining current knowledge and skills to ensure continued professional growth
- Collaborate within our multidisciplinary team and our patients to develop plans to optimise patient outcomes
- Maintain and adhere to Infection Control policies and procedures
- Comply with our organisational policies, procedures, work instructions and guidelines
- Supporting the Nurse Manager in the review of service provided
As a Registered Nurse you will have a strong patient-service focus and demonstrated commitment to continued service improvement. Maintain a willingness to facilitate and encourage professional relationships. Demonstrate problem solving skills, critical thinking and emotional intelligence.
About you
To be considered for this position, you will have:
- Current AHPRA nursing registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
- Demonstrated experience in oncology or haematology (desirable not essential)
- Demonstrated high level communication, problem-solving, coordination and time management skills to maximise patient care and outcomes
- Demonstrated competency in written and verbal communications and the ability to maintain accurate assessment data
- Demonstrated a commitment to Mater by following policy and procedures
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Commitment to ensuring the levels of service is always delivered to patients at all times
- Strong knowledge of continuous improvement process, proven ability to initiate and participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Demonstrates a collaborative and engaging approach to teamwork and the ability to work within the multi-disciplinary team
- Availability to work a rotating roster including morning, afternoons, nights and weekends
While not essential, applicants who currently have or are studying towards a tertiary qualification within this clinical speciality would be highly regarded.
