The Shire of Kojonup is now recruiting several lifeguards to join our team for the 2025/2026 pool season commencing in October 2025 and finishing in April 2026 (approx.). Ideally, candidates will be available from October through to April, however, for the right candidate we can be flexible as we understand applicants may have other overlapping commitments such as University or TAFE.
We’re looking for applicants with varied experience, so junior lifeguards are encouraged to apply!
Not a certified Pool Lifeguard but interested in becoming one? Royal Life Saving are offering a 4-day Pool Lifeguard course for FREE with several different locations to complete the course available!

The key responsibilities of this role are to
Public Safety and Supervision
Provide prompt and effective first aid response to incidents as they occur.
Maintain standards of public safety in accordance with the Shire of Kojonup swimming pool guidelines while on duty.
Supervise public use of the facility and ensure compliance with Shire of Kojonup guidelines.
Liaise with Swimming Pool Coordinator and other team members on all aspects of risk management.
Ensure workstation/areas are maintained in a safe, clean and tidy condition, so that risk of accidents occurring is reduced to a minimum.
Exercise a duty of care to understand the need to work in a safe environment, having regard to your own safety and the safety of others.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Perform spot cleaning in and around the Kevin O’Halloran Memorial Swimming Pool facilities throughout the shift.
Conduct general cleaning in and around the pool as directed by the Swimming Pool Coordinator
Conduct water tests as required.
Report any breakdowns or faulty equipment to the Swimming Pool Coordinator.
Assist in ensuring the safety and security of the Kevin O’Halloran Memorial Swimming Pool fittings and equipment.
General
Maintain a high level of customer service with casual and regular users of the facility.
Set up and dismantle equipment for Kevin O’Halloran Memorial Swimming Pool events and programs as directed by Swimming Pool Coordinator.
Collaborate with other team members when required to completed tasks associated with the daily operations of the Kevin O’Halloran Memorial Swimming Pool.
Attend regular in-service training sessions to support ongoing professional development.
Undertake additional tasks as delegated by the CEO as required.
Essential criteria
Basic lifesaving skills
General cleaning skills
Exceptional customer service skills
Ability to follow instructions and carry out basic tasks autonomously
Basic oral and written literacy and numeracy skills
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team-based environment
Strict adherence to Work Health and Safety policies and procedures
Desirable criteria
Previous experience lifeguarding in an aquatic facility
Qualifications and/or training
Pool Lifeguard Award or equivalent
Senior First Aid Certificate
Resuscitation Certificate
Current Working with Children Check

This role will be offered on a casual basis at an hourly rate of $42.08 per hour (inclusive of 25% casual loading) plus superannuation.
