Founded in 1999 and located in Sydney’s inner west, SDA Structures are a dynamic, innovative and multi award winning structural engineering consultancy. We are highly regarded in the industry and specialise in bespoke and high-end architectural projects across Australia.

As a team of 25+ specialist structural engineers, we love what we do regardless of how small, big, simple or complex a project is. Our project portfolio is diverse and includes heritage, public and residential buildings, urban spaces, art installations and educational facilities. We have a strong focus on sustainability and timber in our work. We work with some of Australia’s leading architects on high-profile and award-winning projects, such as Bondi Pavilion, Australian Museum Crystal Hall, Taronga Zoo and work closely with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.

What we are looking for

A qualified intermediate to senior structural engineer

Have 5 to 10 years design experience.

Experienced in reading structural and architectural drawings and be happy to pick up a pencil to sketch out a problem.

Has knowledge of overall management of project (experience in managing other members of the design time, some exposure to financial aspects of projects)

Someone who is positive and energetic, works well as part of a team as well as on their own

Excellent written, problem solving, and verbal communication skills are a must as daily interactions with architects, builders, clients will form an integral part of your duties.

Genuine interest in contributing to the realisation of quality architectural designs through optimising structural solutions.

Desire to become or already on the road to becoming chartered.

Role

Prepare calculations following relevant Australian and International Standards

Prepare sketch designs (hand sketch, Bluebeam or CAD)

Liaise with architects and other consultants to progress designs

Manage projects and junior project staff (a general mentor to less experienced engineers)

Follow projects through to monitoring of construction on site

Manage project administration within the office, ensuring compliance with internal QA procedures

Use engineering software to model structures in 2D/ 3D
