The Role
You’ll take charge of your client matters from start to finish, managing files independently while always having the support and advice from our experienced team when needed. You will be required to:
Run defended hearings, sentences and bail applications with a high degree of attention to detail
Autonomously take over client files and handle all aspects of the matter from beginning to end
Take carriage of various types of matters including summary, traffic, indictable and complex trial matters.
Prepare written submissions and various other documents throughout the course of the matter
Liaise with clients, the Court and Counsel to deliver outstanding outcomes
Negotiate with Prosecution where appropriate
Opportunity to develop and learn while working with Accredited Specialist
About You
You’re a driven criminal defence lawyer with 3 years PAE, who thrives on variety, challenge, and autonomy. You will have the following attributes:
At least 3 years experience solely in criminal law, with experience in a variety of matters in the Local, District and Supreme Courts
Experience as an advocate in licence appeals, sentences, section 14 hearings, ADVO applications, defended and disputed facts hearings, severity and all grounds appeals, and bail including Supreme Court bail applications
A comprehensive understanding of NSW and Commonwealth law, and ability to follow practice note requirements
Skilled at balancing client expectations and needs during the course of their matter
Ability to show empathy to clients who are dealing with the most stressful situation they may ever face
Self-motivated to complete tasks by various deadlines
Ability to multi-task and deal with urgent matters as they arise
Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
