The Role
An opportunity has become available for several Clinical Nurses (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 12 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.
You will
- Respond to Code Blue calls, high-risk births with critical problem-solving skills.
- Deliver evidence-based care, enhancing service quality and infant health outcomes.
- Improve neonatal service safety through quality portfolios and service gaps review.
- Educate parents and families on neonatal care, fostering independence and confidence.
About you
To be successful in this position you will require:
- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent
- Registration with the Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
- Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary
- Permanent full time (two positions); Permanent part time (64 hrs p.f.)
- Base salary ranging from $107,960 - $115,604 per annum or $54.44 - $58.30 per hour.
About Us
The Newborn Care Unit at Gold Coast University Hospital is part of Women, Newborn and Children's Services and is comprised of a 12 cot Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and a 24 cot Special Care Nursery (SCN). The NICU admits babies fulfilling Level 6 Queensland Clinical Services Capability Framework criteria which includes but is not limited to:
- Extremely preterm infants from 23 weeks gestation
- Parenteral Nutrition
- Nitric Oxide therapy
- Exchange transfusions
- Therapeutic cooling and Amplitude integrated electroencephalography (aEEG)
- Neonatal surgical procedures (cardiac surgery and complex surgical conditions are managed at Mater Mother's or Queensland Children's Hospital)
- Invasive and non-invasive respiratory support including High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation
Neonatal Retrieval Emergency Service Southern Queensland (NeoRESQ) based at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in Brisbane coordinate and provide the neonatal emergency retrieval service.
There is a requirement that all Newborn Services nurses are available to work, within their scope of practice, across all areas of the Neonatal Service, including rotation to SCN and the Neonatal Early Discharge Service (NEDS) a community home visiting service.

The Consumer first project has made significant sustainable and innovative changes to enhance the quality of care for mental health patients. There is now a consistent and monitored approach to crisis management planning, supporting patients to manage crisis situations and potentially avoiding unnecessary presentations to the emergency department.
The Falls and Balance Clinic, in partnership with general practitioners, has reduced the rate of falls among high-risk older adults with a 92 per cent reduction in falls between the initial appointment and review, thereby reducing hospital and emergency department admissions.
Oral health waiting times for general dental assessment have been reduced by almost 50 per cent in less than 12 months.
Planning for the Southport Health Precinct is underway, with a range of outpatient and community based services expected to move into refurbished buildings in 2014.
