ABOUT ABSEC

AbSec – NSW Child, Family and Community Peak Aboriginal Corporation, is the peak organisation for Aboriginal children, young people and families in NSW. We provide an Aboriginal perspective on child protection and out-of-home care policy to the NSW Government and support Aboriginal-led organisations deliver effective services for Aboriginal children, young people and families. We are a not-for-profit, incorporated community organisation, governed by an all-Aboriginal board.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Project Officer to join our team at AbSec on a fixed-term basis.

This full-time position this is a generalist project role, supporting all AbSec projects to achieve our strategic objectives. The key focus will be the Housing Support for Out of Home Care Leavers Project—a community-led pilot initiative addressing the housing needs of Aboriginal children, young people, and families at risk of, or with experience in, the child protection and out-of-home care systems in New South Wales.

Working closely with Aboriginal stakeholders and community-controlled organisations, the Project Officer will facilitate co-design processes, support the piloting of new resources, and contribute to an Aboriginal-led evaluation. This role is central to progressing systemic policy and practice reforms that improve housing and wellbeing outcomes for vulnerable young people, in alignment with AbSec’s values and advocacy goals.

What you'll be doing

Assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of community-based projects and initiatives

Provide administrative and logistical support to project teams, including development, evaluation and reporting

Liaise with key stakeholders, including government agencies, non-profit organisations and community groups

Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of project management processes and procedures

Participate in project team meetings and collaborate with colleagues to ensure successful project delivery

Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation and records

What we're looking for

Demonstrated experience in project coordination or administration, particularly in the community services or non-profit sector

Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders

Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite and project management software

A passion for social justice and a commitment to improving outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people and families

Benefits:

Full-time 35-hour week based in Redfern (location flexible for right candidate)

Salary: SCHADS Level 4 plus superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience (not-for-profit salary packaging available)

Hybrid work arrangement in a supportive and friendly work environment
