Are you ready to put in the miles to make an amazing impact in someone’s life? I am a friendly, high energy 23-year-old young woman living in my own home in Gosnells who is looking for female support workers to jump on in, see me where I am at and understand where it is I want to go. If you have high energy, compassion, understanding, multiple methods of communicating and understanding, along with a fair bit of grit – this might be the role for you.
I am someone who lives by rituals. My compulsion rituals make me feel safe and help me to stay regulated. This might mean that I appear to do strange things – but they make sense to me. Here’s the thing though – I can’t verbally communicate with you. I communicate with my supports through my adaptive talker, sounds and gestures. This doesn’t mean that you need to be a whiz at non verbal communication – it just means you need to pay attention.
I am always seeking sensory input, touch, see, smell, hear – I need it all. This means that high sensory activities are a must for me, along with cooking is flavour! Can you help me whip up storms in the kitchen that smell and taste amazing? Great! Let’s get cooking.
I have a robust Allied Health team around me to not only help me with my day to day needs like communicating and engaging in daily activities and care, but also to help me with some of my more concerning behaviours. I am super open about these, and sometimes I can be confronting – but could you imagine not being able to simply “say” when something isn’t right? My Allied Health team support me and my support workers to understand the functions of my behaviour, and support with strategies that will help me keep regulated, engaged and motivated to partake safely in my day to day.
I love getting out into the community and I hope you will too! This is not without its challenges and my team are working tirelessly to support me to engage in making connections outside of my home. I am really excited to share these new adventures with you!!!
Who Am I Looking For?
I am looking for Support Workers who can understand and follow process, but who also speak up and tell my team when something isn’t working. I need strong women around me who will advocate for me just how I am – so that I can be who I want to be. These are the things most important to me when looking to share my daily life with someone:
A calm stage presence: Someone who stays cool under pressure and brings a steady, centred energy no matter what is happening.
A team player: Someone who collaborates well with me, my family, and my support network. Someone who is on the same side as me and my team in the support of helping me achieve my goals.
A boundary setter: Trust and respect are key! I need someone who understands the importance of boundaries – for both of us – and sets them clearly from day one.
A routine rockstar: You’ll help me stick to my routines gently guiding me through these with empathy and care. You will work collaboratively with my Allied Health team to implement strategies, monitor and record data and reach out when things aren’t quite right.
An observer and a do-er: I like my home in order, and you will have many tasks outside of just making life fun for me. If you’re into those organisation reels that leave us all feeling super satisfied by how neat, tidy and organised things are, this is for you.
Someone who doesn’t jump: It is so important to me that my supports are committed to my journey. Not every day is going to be a good day, and sometimes, I can be confronting.
Are you ready to stand by me and support me through these moments? If you’re not afraid of a challenge, you sound alright to me.
What is the role:
We’re going to start off slow. I need time to get to know you, and you need time to get to know me. I have hourly visiting supports across a 24 hour period including sleep shifts paid under the SCHADS award. My roster, whilst usually set, can and will change with my needs so someone who is flexible, and understands that my needs come first is a must.
Why join me?
Supporting me means more than just being a part of a team – it means becoming a part of my journey – the good, the bad and the brilliant. When you really get to know me, you’ll get a sense of adventure and achievement as we walk this path, however slow, together.
So if you’re ready to bring your A game, follow proven process but also challenge the status quo – LET’S GO!
