About the role
St Catherine's Catholic College, The Whitsundays is is seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant Principal - Religious Education- Secondary position. This role commences January, 2026 and concludes 26 June 2026.
The Assistant Principal - Religious Education (APRE- Secondary ) provides effective professional leadership by developing and nurturing the Catholic tradition and Religious Life of the School and the coordination of Religious Education.
The purpose of the APRE is to exercise leadership and assist with the management of the school in accordance with Catholic Education policies and in consultation with other personnel as appropriate and with due reference to Catholic Education structures, processes and practices. The APRE is responsible for the supervision of those areas as delegated by the Principal and as designated in his/her duty statement which should be reviewed annually.
We are seeking an inspiring and dedicated teacher to lead and deliver high-quality Religious Education (RE) across the Secondary phase, with a particular focus on both classroom teaching and the strategic leadership of RE and Catholic Identity (CI). The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering thoughtful dialogue, critical thinking, and inclusive practices, while shaping a curriculum that supports students' personal, spiritual, and moral development. Mandatory Criteria/Professional Registration/Other
Appropriate Tertiary qualification with registration or eligibility for registration with Queensland College of Teachers
Postgraduate qualification for a position of senior leadership in Catholic schools, which includes attainment of/commitment to the completion of a minimum of 8 semester units of postgraduate study in Religious Education, Scripture, Theology, Catholic Ethos from an Australian Catholic university or institution.
Full accreditation to teach in a Catholic School and accreditation to teach Religious Education in a Catholic school
The capacity to enact leadership focused on living and sharing the Catholic faith, the Mission of the Church and the Catholic school ethos, with the intention of influencing and enriching the lives of students, staff and other members of the school community.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.
Current Driver’s Licence
Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
Desirable Criteria
Five years of successful teaching experience, preferably across a range of year-levels
Masters or other post graduate qualification in Theology, Religious Education or Educational Leadership
Can show evidence of educational, pastoral, theological and managerial aspects of school leadership.
