About the role:
The position of Trades Assistant forms a key component of the Progress Rail Service team primarily responsible with ensuring that parts are ready for the trades person's in the locomotive shop. This role is part of a team and works on the EMD Locomotives.
Your Primary Responsibilities will be:
- Operate machinery as required, in order to perform tasks, where qualified and licensed.
- Perform manual tasks as required, including safe working duties as a rail industry worker.
- Undertake, as instructed by your Team Leader, tasks which may be incidental & peripheral to rail industry and your trades assistant role.
- Workshop housekeeping tasks, ensuring a clean and safe work environment Commitment to a Zero Harm workplace that promotes an excellent team work attitude.
The role is part of a Locomotive fleet upgrade in Port Hedland with employees working off a 8 days on 6 off fly out roster from Perth. Project will be transitioning to a 7 days on 7 days off roster later in the year.
** Please note, due to the short turn around all of our employees need to be based in WA.
This is a great Entry level opportunity for somebody wanting to break into the FIFO industry for the first time.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment if possible.
- Driver’s license (essential).
- Forklift license (essential).
- Dogging and/or Rigging (desirable).
- Proven ability to organize and prioritise tasks, be flexible and resourceful, proactive and professional in manner with a high degree of initiative.
- Ability to work unsupervised and be a hands on team player.
- Strong level of customer service and communication skills.
