The Role
As an EL 1 Project Director in the Capital Facilities and Infrastructure Branch, you will be responsible for leading a team of APS, Military and out-sourced resources in the planning, development, approval and delivery of major capital infrastructure projects for the Department of Defence. You will be responsible for ensuring that your projects are successfully delivered by achieving quality, schedule and budget outcomes. Your role will be performed under limited direction from the Director, and you will have a level of delegated authority to make decisions on behalf of the Branch and the Commonwealth.
The EL 1 Project Director will require having in-depth knowledge of the infrastructure asset development function and will require complex problem solving and resolution of issues that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence and Government. The Project Director will be responsible for driving and managing the project approvals process, which includes Departmental, Government and Parliamentary approvals.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
Within the Capital Facilities and Infrastructure Branch, the EL 1 Project Director will be part of a well-oiled team that Plans, Develops and Delivers a growing portfolio with a total value of approximately $50 billion. The Branch delivers sustainment projects (like redevelopments of existing Bases) and new capability projects as a fundamental Input to Capability. The development and delivery of projects is undertaken by seven Delivery Directorates with support from the enabling Directorates and other parts of the Infrastructure Division.
Our Ideal Candidate
The EL 1 Project Director leads an integrated Project Team within Capital Facilities & Infrastructure Branch. The Project Director is a contract management professional responsible for leading a small team in the development and delivery of substantial capital projects, ensuring that they are completed in accordance with schedule, budget and quality requirements.
The EL 1 Project Director role will suit people with a passion for construction project management and requires strong people management and leadership skills. You will have well developed project, contract and financial management skills necessary for the planning, development, approval and delivery of capital infrastructure projects to achieve agreed project objectives. You will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to solve complex project issues and achieve successful project outcomes.
You will have the opportunity to further develop your client side project and contract management skills, whilst delivering high value and complex capital infrastructure projects. You will require well-developed oral and written communication and organisational skills to successfully manage and coordinate your team, as well as a range of stakeholders, both internal and external to Defence.
