About the Role
The Assistant Director Financial Management will oversee the coordination and management of internal and external budgets delivering against the strategic priorities of the Institute. The Assistant Director Financial Management will be an experienced professional, who is able to multitask, work to competing deadlines and thrives in a fast-paced work environment. This position reports to the Chief Finance Officer.
Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • coordination and management of internal and external budgets.
  • management of the monthly reporting activities including CFO reporting, capital reporting, grant acquittals, capital spending and budgeting.
  • ensuring financial and procurement activity is accurately recorded and is consistent with contracts, budgets, guidelines and accounting standards.
  • produce structured and ad-hoc reports, memos, policies, procedures and analysis on financial performance for internal and external stakeholders.
  • provide timely and accurate advice and support to staff, management and clients
  • contribute constructively to Institute wide projects including strategic and operational plans.
  • supervision of staff.
  • assisting with financial statements including:reviewing financial statements.
    review and provide feedback to staff on work papers, reconciliations and transaction testing.

Our Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong understanding of financial management principles, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting as well as demonstrated experience leading a small finance team, ideally in an APS setting. You will hold CA/CPA qualifications or be nearing completion of this.
You will come with the following skills, experience and attributes:

  • strong understanding of financial management principles, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • demonstrated expertise in accounting software and financial systems.
  • excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic insights.
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with stakeholders at all levels.
  • demonstrated experience leading a small finance team, ideally in an APS setting.
  • CA/CPA qualifications or nearing completion.
