About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Disability Support Worker (DSW) to join our team. This role involves providing high-quality support to clients with mental health, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), and forensic backgrounds. You will work primarily with clients in Supported Independent Living (SIL) accommodation, delivering a range of support services tailored to individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide prompt, respectful personal care
- Assist with domestic tasks and household cleaning
- Support clients with mealtime management
- Perform manual handling, including hoists and transfers
- Supervise and administer medication as required
- Provide community access support
- Manage and respond to challenging behaviours using a positive behaviour approach
- Assess critical situations, identify potential hazards and risks, and ensure client safety
- Support clients with mental health needs, AOD issues, and forensic backgrounds in a trauma-informed manner
About You:
- Proven experience providing support to clients with mental health, AOD, and forensic backgrounds
- Skilled in managing challenging behaviours
- Competent in manual handling techniques (hoists, transfers)
- Experience with mealtime management and medication support
- Able to assess and manage risk in critical situations
- Understanding of trauma-informed care practices and positive behaviour support
- Flexible, reliable, and excellent communication skills
- Daytime availability is essential
Role Details:
- Work primarily in SIL accommodation requiring 24/7 support
- Shift times vary between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm
- Minimum shift duration is 2 hours (current trend is minimum 3-hour shifts)
- Casual and part-time opportunities available
