The Opportunity:
Baluk Arts is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Program Coordinator (Part-Time) to join our team. This pivotal role is responsible for driving the planning, development, and successful delivery of Baluk Arts' diverse programs and associated events. The successful candidate will be instrumental in fostering artistic practice, creating a welcoming and supportive environment, and ensuring seamless program delivery.
The Program Coordinator operates within an ethical, transparent, and professional business framework, upholding best-practice standards for an Aboriginal Arts Centre. This role requires exceptional organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, flexibility, and a deep understanding of artistic practice. Working closely with artists, will be a core aspect of this rewarding position.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Arts Program Development & Facilitation:
Develop, implement, and facilitate Baluk Arts' comprehensive workshop program, including member/community workshops, professional development, and public workshops.
Assign and coordinate appropriate professional artists/workshop facilitators and volunteers to run workshops.
Promote the workshop program and studio opportunities to the Indigenous community through established networks, stakeholders, organisations, and the wider public.
Deliver project objectives within specified timeframes and budgets, ensuring high standards are met.
2. Artist & Participant Support:
· Communicate best arts practice to all artists/members/participants, covering aspects like OHS, proper material use and care, studio etiquette, and pack-up procedures.
· Develop and maintain strong, positive, and harmonious relationships with Baluk Arts members and Indigenous communities.
3. Administrative & Operational Support for Programs:
· Document, video, and photograph artist workshops, events, and programs, ensuring proper filing and archiving.
· Order and maintain art materials, stock, and equipment necessary for programs and studio use, with Manager’s approval.
· Develop and compile resources for internal workshops for use by all participants/members.
· Develop and maintain contact lists, documents, and resources, collating, filing, and updating them on Mailchimp.
· Keep studio, office, and general facilities well-organised, clean, and tidy to support program delivery.
4. General & Representation:
· Contribute to the development of high-quality customer service across the organisation, particularly for program participants and enquiries.
· Respond to email, telephone, and visitor enquiries and requests related to programs in a positive and timely manner.
· Represent Baluk Arts at external events/meetings where required, promoting programs and opportunities.
· Promote the work and success stories of the art centre and its programs at every contact opportunity with all stakeholders.
Required Skills & Experience:
· Tertiary qualification in an art-related field and/or equivalent industry experience.
· Previous experience designing, implementing, and facilitating creative programs.
· Experience working in an arts and/or cultural setting.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Excellent arts marketing and promotion skills, particularly for programs.
· Previous experience working with Aboriginal communities is highly valued.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
· Strong community engagement skills and a passion for community development in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander context.
· Knowledge and experience in community arts practices and current issues within the community arts sector.
· Ability to negotiate and motivate artists and arts/community groups.
· Well-developed skills in managing self, setting priorities, planning, and organising own work.
· Well-developed computer literacy skills, particularly with Microsoft Office.
· Possess sound organisational skills and proven ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
· Ability to take direction, work independently, and as part of a team.
· Ability to write reports and communicate program outcomes effectively.
· Demonstrated experience in creating and running arts-based workshops.
· Knowledge of local community networks relevant to program outreach.

The role is part-time. Three days a week at 8 hours between Tuesday and Friday as decided. Every third Saturday for 5 hours required (10am-3pm). Hourly rate $30-$40.00 pending experience.
