About the Role
YPRL is currently seeking a permanent part-time Officer Reading, Learning & Community presently located at Eltham Library and the Mobile Library, however, you may be required to work at any other YPRL sites when required.
Our Officers provide a high standard of service to Yarra Plenty Regional Library customers and to the wider community.
About the Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a courteous and effective communication style, with the ability to interact with both children and their parents. The successful incumbents will provide a high level of customer focus and will actively encourage enthusiasm for reading in children and assisting with running craft activities during school holidays on the Mobile Library and regular Storytimes both on the Mobile Library and in branch.
The ideal candidate for this position should possess strong customer service skills, problem solving skills, be able to communicate effectively with all library users and members of the community and to be able to think on their feet to solve any issues. They should actively encourage a love for reading through reader advisory and prioritise customer satisfaction. Adaptability, flexibility, and a positive team-oriented approach are essential qualities we are looking for in the successful candidate.
Responsibilities:
Providing courteous and effective communication with all customers to provide an efficient and timely service based on good knowledge of library products and services
Maintaining a high level of customer focus by responding to customer needs, assisting with promotional activities, functions and displays, providing basic reference information and participating in the provision of community engagement services to grow library membership and usage
Performing a range of library operations that support customers in a self serve environment, including circulation and collection maintenance duties as directed.
Actively contributing to a positive team environment by supporting the branch in achieving day to day operations, active participation in planning and staff meetings, attendance at training and through advocacy for branch and regional development
Contributing to the role of the library as a place for reading, learning, and meeting
As part of the requirement to assist with the Mobile Library, you will be required to use your own method of transport to attend the depot and then assist in the van by delivering books to outreach points and between branch locations.
Reporting:
This position will report to the Team Leader Eltham Library and Outreach Services Manager.

Weeks 1, 3 & 4
Monday (MOB) 9am – 4:45pm
Wednesday (ELT) 1pm – 9.15pm
Week 2
Monday (MOB) 9am – 4:45pm
Wednesday (ELT) 1pm – 9.15pm
Saturday (ELT) 9:45am – 5:15pm
Sunday (ELT) 9:45am – 12:45pm

About Yarra Plenty Regional Library
Yarra Plenty Regional Library was founded in the mid 1960s, when the former City of Heidelberg agreed to provide library services to the former Shire of Eltham. Later the former Shire of Diamond Valley and the Shire of Whittlesea joined in the regional group.
In 1995, following changes in local government boundaries, the new municipalities of Banyule, Nillumbik and Whittlesea continued their support for the regional library service and Yarra Plenty was one of the first regions incorporated under Section 196 of the Victorian Local Government Act 1989.
