Posted 16 days ago
An exciting opportunity exists for an Aboriginal and Islander Education Worker supporting two Catholic Primary Schools in the Northern Territory!
This is an identified position for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to serve as an Aboriginal and Islander Education Worker (AIEW), a shared role between Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Woodroffe and St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School in Humpty Doo.
The Schools:
Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School is situated in the city of Palmerston, Northern Territory. The school caters from Transition to Year 6 and has an Early Learning Centre Program and an Outside School Hours Care program. The school commits to providing excellence in education and nurturing faith-filled learners who are respectful and resilient in living the commandment of Jesus, “Love one another as I have loved you” (John: 13:34).
St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School was established in 1997 to serve the needs of a growing population in Darwin’s rural area. It is the only co-educational Catholic Primary school in the rural area, catering for students in Transition to Year 6. The student population is drawn from across the rural area including as far south as Batchelor, east to Corroboree and west to Berry Springs. Students within our school community come from a diverse range of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
The Position:
The AIEW will play a pivotal role in fostering a culturally inclusive environment, supporting the academic and social-emotional well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and enriching the broader school communities. The AIEW will also collaborate with teachers to integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures across all learning areas, and ensure the involvement of Elders and community members in school events.
This role requires a deep commitment to the Catholic ethos of both schools and a strong understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, necessitating a current NT Working with Children Check. Working days at each school will be negotiated with the respective principals.
