If this sounds like you, join our Deadly Ears in Deadly Hands team to help make a difference!

The Role:

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner to join the Deadly Ears in Deadly Hands research team.

The Deadly Ears in Deadly Hands research team aims to demonstrate that First Nations Health Professionals have a measurable impact in the Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) paediatric wards, by conducting ear exams and providing culturally appropriate support and health education for children and their families. We are recruiting an Aboriginal Health Practitioner to work within our research team to carry out the study clinical assessments, collect samples, collect data and data entry, as directed by the Team Leader.

What you will bring to the role:

As a motivated and qualified professional, you will have current registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, with extensive experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients in a medical field.

You will also have:

  1. Experience working in paediatric or child health in a hospital or health service setting and experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander colleagues.
  2. The ability and experience to approach and yarn with families on the hospital wards to assess if they are suitable and ensure that they have a full understanding of the requirements of the study.
  3. The ability to conduct clinical assessments, data collection, medical record checks, and collect and transport specimens for the study, according to the expectations of the study requirements.
  4. The ability to organise and conduct follow up visits in the hospital, in clinic, community and at home (with potential occasional travel to remote communities via light aircraft or 4WD).

This is a female identified role. An applicant's gender is a genuine occupational requirement of this position, authorised by s35 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1992 (NT) and Division 4 (s30, ss1 & ss2a, c, g, e & h) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984.
