About the opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Economic Development Lead to drive and coordinate economic and tourism development initiatives across the Murray River Council region. This role is pivotal in shaping the strategic delivery of key projects that support local business growth, enhance tourism, and strengthen community engagement.

Reporting to the Manager Economic Development and Tourism, you’ll guide a small, dynamic team while overseeing a diverse portfolio of economic programs, tourism campaigns, and events. You'll also collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders—from community groups and local businesses to government agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinating the day-to-day operations of the economic development team

Leading the implementation of Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Strategy

Overseeing strategic marketing initiatives such as Visit Echuca Moama, Visit River Country and Live Work Invest

Managing tourism events and supporting regional economic development projects

Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, government partners, and the wider community

Ideal Candidate profile

You are a driven and strategic thinker with a strong understanding of economic development and tourism. You’re comfortable leading a team, managing multiple projects, and developing partnerships that create real outcomes.

The successful candidate will also require:

Relevant tertiary qualification combined with industry experience

Proven experience in project management, marketing, event delivery and stakeholder engagement

Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and support a small team

Demonstrated ability to think strategically and deliver impactful results

Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
