About Ampilatwatja Health Centre (AHC)
Ampilatwatja Health Centre (AHC) is a community-controlled health service located in the Northern Territory, approximately 350km northeast of Alice Springs. Serving the community of Ampilatwatja and two nearby outstations, AHC delivers holistic, culturally respectful care to over 650 residents. The Centre operates under strong governance from local traditional owners, with an experienced clinical team comprising General Practitioners, Remote Area Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, and support staff. About the Opportunity
We're looking for Remote Area Nurses to join our multidisciplinary team based in Ampilatwatja, NT. This role offers flexible work arrangements, including full-time, job share, FIFO, or casual contracts. Standard hours are Monday to Friday (8:30 am – 5:00 pm), with participation in a rotating on-call roster outside clinic hours.
Based primarily in our community clinic, you'll also provide regular outreach to two nearby outstations (~40km away), with occasional school and home visits. This role requires a high degree of clinical responsibility, allowing you to utilise your full skill set across emergency response, chronic disease management, and remote outreach.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
Delivering high-quality primary care, emergency support, and chronic disease management
Participating in outreach services and community health promotion
Responding to after-hours calls while on roster, including urgent assessments and emergency care
Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and adhering to infection control standards
Collaborating with Aboriginal Health Practitioners, GPs, and allied health staff to ensure patient-centred outcomes
Contributing to a culturally safe and inclusive care model

This isn’t just another clinic role. You’ll take the lead in providing care in our community clinic and through outreach to remote outstations, with real autonomy and the chance to make decisions that directly shape community health outcomes.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need to hold current, unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and have a minimum of five years’ post-graduate experience, preferably in ED/Primary Health care.
You will also need to demonstrate:
A strong understanding of Aboriginal health, chronic disease management, and culturally safe care
Familiarity with Communicare or similar electronic medical record (EMR) systems
The ability to work with an extended scope of practice and a high level of autonomy
In addition, you must hold the following licences/certifications:
A current Australian Manual Driver’s Licence (and the confidence to drive a manual 4WD on unsealed roads)
a current Ochre Card (NT working with children check)
ALS (Advanced Life Support)
REC (Remote Emergency Care)
MEC (Maternity Emergency Care)
Immunisation certification (AGV)
IV competency
iStat and QAAMS pharmacotherapy, and Paediatric Emergency Care qualifications highly regarded
