Support Worker – Relationship-Focused Role with Purpose
CARE NATIONAL
Posted 12 days ago
About the Role
We are seeking a genuine, emotionally aware, and grounded Support Workers/Support Friends to join a respectful and well-supported team, assisting a woman in her early 70’s with an acquired brain injury to live with dignity, routine, and connection in her own home.
This is a person-led role, not a task list. It’s about doing things with — not for — someone rebuilding life on their own terms after trauma.
Shifts are calm and structured. You’ll work one-on-one, with regular routines and clear expectations. Support includes light physical assistance, structured companionship, and maintaining stability around fatigue, cognitive changes, and anxiety.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting daily routines including showering, dressing, and prompting medications
Cooking and sharing meals together
Engaging in light activities such as cooking, going for short drives, or gardening
Respectfully supporting emotional regulation, sensory needs, and communication challenges
Providing overnight (sleepover) support in a quiet home
Light household duties (washing, tidying, preparing for the day)
Attending in-home appointments or liaising with the support team
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
Warm, light-hearted, and genuinely caring — you enjoy helping people feel safe, seen and capable
Calm and steady in your presence — not easily flustered, not overly serious
Professional but deeply human — you're reliable, respectful and values-driven, without losing your ability to laugh or connect on a real level
Comfortable following structure and routines, while staying attuned to the person in front of you
Able to commit to regular set shifts, including sleepovers
Client Preference: Due to the nature of the role, the client feels most comfortable with female companions aged approximately 40–65 years. This is not a blanket requirement but a respectful request to help ensure relational alignment.
Required:
NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
Valid driver’s licence and insured vehicle
First Aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain)
Availability for regular set days and overnight shifts
Willingness to undergo onboarding and mentoring in ABI, trauma-informed support and communication strategies
Ability to provide or obtain a current photo, which may be requested during the later stages of shortlisting (to help the client feel safe with new people)
What We Offer
Stable shifts on set days – we believe consistency benefits both the client and the worker
A genuinely supportive team who communicate clearly and value emotional safety
Training and mentoring in person-centred care, ABI and relationship-based support
A workplace where your presence and attitude matter more than qualifications
Competitive SCHADS Award pay (based on experience and role level)
Opportunities to grow meaningful, long-term working relationships
How to Apply
Please apply via SEEK with:
A short cover letter outlining why this role resonates with you
A current resume highlighting relevant or transferable experience
Your general availability and shift preferences
A current photo (to show the client).
We are looking for someone who brings care, clarity and calmness to each shift — and who wants to be a steady presence in someone’s recovery, not just a name on a roster.
Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. All applications handled in strict confidence.
