Your new role
- Assist with the behavioural assessment and rehabilitation of beagles in the program.
- Create a canine behaviour assessment for the purposes of determining adoptability.
- Create Behaviour Modification Programs to assist with the rehabilitation of the animals.
- Liaise with adopters about suitable placement and post-adoption support.
- Assist with daily record keeping and report writing in accordance with Best Practice for animal husbandry.
- Liaise with the research facility about the potential intake of dogs.
- Assist with foster carers responsible for fostering dogs.
- Liaise with potential adopters and suitable placements, including home visits and regular communication with adopters post adoption.
- Assist with regular promotional posts about beagles available for adoption.
- Keep adequate records of daily observations, medical notes, adoption resources and post-adoption questionnaires.
- Create a pre-adoption questionnaire to determine the suitability of beagle placement.
What you'll need to succeed
Essential:
- Formal tertiary qualifications in animal behaviour and training (Cert 4 Companion Animal Services, Behaviour & Training)
- A demonstrated high level of experience in companion animal management and behavioural management
- A high level of experience in dog training and rehabilitation
- A high-level experience in animal sheltering, including conducting behavioural assessments and behaviour modification for the purposes of determining adoptability
- Sound knowledge and understanding of animal care and welfare issues
- High-level oral and written communication skills, including sound negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- High level of canine health and behaviour knowledge
- Exceptional teamwork skills
- Great customer service, including liaising with the public, foster carers and rescue agencies
- Self-motivated, organised, able to multitask
- Excellent written and IT skills
- Current class C driving licence.
