About the Role

In this pivotal role, you will lead the identification, development, and implementation of strategic research opportunities and initiatives with industry, government, and non-government organisations to grow Flinders University's grant income in health and medical research.

You will work proactively to enhance the University's research capabilities and reputation by securing external funding and supporting research training initiatives. A key aspect of the role involves providing high-level advice on research engagement and contributing to the preparation of research-related submissions.

You will also facilitate local, national and international collaborations and negotiate agreements and project terms. With a strong focus on leadership and collaboration, you will work closely with internal stakeholders across Colleges and Institutes to drive research growth and ensure alignment with strategic priorities.

About the Portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Research)

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Leadership Team comprise the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Training and Capabilities) and Dean of Graduate Research, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Enterprise and Infrastructure), the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Performance and Impact), the Chief Research Development Officer and the Research Lead: Indigenous Research Strategy. This team, together with the Research Development and Support (RDS) and the Office of Graduate Research (OGR) Teams provide leadership and support to achieve the University's research goals.

The Portfolio includes:

The Research Development and Support (RDS) Team works with Flinders researchers, Colleges, Institutes and Centres, other portfolios and external stakeholders to proactively support research.

The Office of Graduate Research (OGR) Team provides support, expertise and guidance for prospective and enrolled HDR students, HDR supervisors and Colleges through each stage of candidature and professional development.

About You:

You are a strategic and results-driven professional with postgraduate qualifications and/or extensive experience in research management or a related field. With a proven track record in research administration or related environments, you are adept at high-level written communication, including developing compelling business cases and funding proposals. Your ability to drive innovation, contribute to policy development, and lead procedural change makes you an asset in dynamic research environments. You excel at leading complex projects, exercising initiative, and managing competing priorities with precision.

Your advanced analytical skills and strategic mindset enable you to solve complex problems and identify high-value opportunities through engagement with government, industry bodies, and research organisations. You possess strong business acumen, advanced leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of public research policy and funding landscapes.
