The Team:
Come and be a part of a unique and diverse nurse lead team. The Mother Baby Unit (MBU) delivers multidisciplinary inpatient care for consumers with perinatal mental illness, including sleep and settling issues, in the perinatal period from conception through to 12 months post-partum.
We are a two-bed unit and are operational 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year and currently situated within the RHH K block. We work fully rotational shift work and offer family friendly approach to work and rostering. We pride ourselves on being a transparent operational space and caring for our consumers is our ultimate goal.
The Role:
- With a focus on engagement, work in collaboration with the consumers, their family, or carers, to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care that is evidence based, person centred, and trauma informed.
- Function as an active member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to provide care to all consumers of the service, which includes biopsychosocial assessments, active, therapeutic engagement, monitoring and review of mental state and response to treatments, and updates to the care plan in consultation with the individual consumer, their carers and the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
- As a member of the service, evaluate the effectiveness of nursing strategies in meeting anticipated patient outcomes and participate in the development and revision of organisational documentation, policies and procedures relating to nursing based best practice and the model of care for the service.
- Complete all required clinical documentation, including assessments, risk assessment, transfer of care, relevant clinical correspondence, and clinical data collection, within specified timeframes, predominantly via electronic consumer records systems.
You will need:
- Current knowledge and experience in and the ability to apply nursing principles and procedures in the delivery of consumer care in acute adult mental health in line with legal requirements and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council competency standards for Registered Nurses.
- Knowledge and understanding of the psychosocial and health needs of individuals and their application to nursing practice in the acute adult mental health setting, including an understanding of the principles of maintaining appropriate therapeutic relationships with consumers.
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills including written skills and use of computer based medical records and the ability to function effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment

Details of appointment:
Fixed term, full time, shift worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight for a period of 24 months
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $78,179 to $105,995 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
Access to the Grade 4 salary range $99,455- $105,995 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
- Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)
- Current Driver’s Licence (only applicable where the occupant is required to provide services to community-based clients)
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Possess or be working towards a specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification, or completed prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, a hospital-based training program that resulted in previous registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse registration authority within Australia
