Network Engineer - Cisco ASA Specialist

About the Role

I'm seeking a skilled Network Engineer to take the lead in auditing, optimising, and enhancing the company's Cisco ASA firewall configurations.

This role focuses on performing a comprehensive review of Access Control Lists (ACLs) to ensure the network remains secure, efficient, and aligned with industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed reviews and audits of Cisco ASA firewall ACLs for relevance, accuracy, and efficiency.
• Identify and document unused, redundant, or overly permissive rules.
• Propose and implement ACL improvements to enhance security and performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including security and application teams, to validate rule usage.
• Execute configuration changes with precision, minimising business disruptions.
• Develop robust documentation of pre- and post-change configurations.
• Establish and contribute to ongoing processes for ACL lifecycle management.

What I'm Looking For:

• Tertiary education in IT, Communications, or related fields (e.g., Bachelor's in IT or Electrical Engineering, CCNA/CCNP certifications).
• 4+ years of hands-on experience with Cisco ASA firewalls, particularly ACL configurations.
• Solid understanding of network security principles and the ability to analyse firewall logs and rule performance.
• Proficient in creating clear and thorough documentation for configurations and audit findings.
• Familiarity with enterprise-level change control processes and the ability to navigate them seamlessly.
• Exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Desirable "Nice-to-Have" Experience (While not essential, experience in these areas will set you apart)

• Proficiency in tools like Ansible, Python, AWX, and REST APIs to streamline network operations.
• Familiarity with tools such as SolarWinds, Splunk, and TIG stack for monitoring and analysis.
• Identifying opportunities to reduce manual processes through automation.
