Alkira Wheelchair Services is seeking a dedicated and experienced Wheelchair Service Mechanic to join our Sydney-based team. This hands-on role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining manual and powered wheelchairs and mobility equipment to ensure safe and reliable use by our clients. This is a Monday to Friday role travelling to clients within the Sydney regions, Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Newcastle and Wollongong. Every day is different, Every Job is Interesting!

Key Responsibilities:

Diagnose and repair mobility equipment (manual/powered wheelchairs, scooters, hoists, beds, etc.)

Conduct regular servicing to meet manufacturer standards

Perform on-site repairs at homes, hospitals, care facilities, Schools & Day Programs

Install and configure accessories (cushions, control units, seating)

Keep accurate service records

Engage with clients, carers, and clinicians to ensure optimal outcomes

Maintain tidy service vehicle, tools, and workshop area

Adhere to OH&S and Australian standards

Key Requirements:

3+ years of mechanical/electrical experience (mobility, automotive, or similar preferred)

Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills

Be driven and self-motivated.

Patience and compassion

Where required, take payment from customers

Develop solutions to rectify operational and performance issues with products

Collect/deliver equipment

Must have or be willing to get WWCC (working with children’s check).

Understanding basics of electronics and control systems

NSW driver’s licence (essential)

Reliable, organised, and able to work independently

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Empathy and respect for people with disabilities

Advise the Manager when stock levels require replenishing

Desirable Qualifications:

Certificate III or IV in Mechanical/Electrical/Engineering trades

Auto Electrical experience

Experience with NDIS participants or the aged/disability sector

Familiarity with major brands (Permobil, Sunrise, Invacare, Ottobock, Spex Seating etc.)
