Youth Support Worker - Sunshine Coast

Total Development Program provides support and care to our most vulnerable children and young people as well as their families within our community. Our services are available to people on the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Wide Bay regions. Our Sunshine Coast team currently have a number of openings for youth workers to join our residential care support team & community support team.

About the Role

Using a therapeutic care model the Youth Worker delivers support to children and young people in residential placements throughout the Sunshine Coast, outreach support & NDIS community support. Delivering a client centred approach to develop and empower young people to achieve personal goals and a quality of life that involves being active members of their communities. The role is varied and fulfilling and requires diverse staff to attain the needs of the individuals that we support.

This position will require split shifts, overnight, awake and weekend work.

Casual working hours with a minimum of 15 hours per week, with an option to full time or PPT in the future.

Key responsibilities:

Contribute to initial assessments of clients' needs and provide information and assistance in accessing appropriate services and resources for support.

Provide appropriate information and support to new residents to assist them to feel comfortable in their new environment.

Ensure that each resident is provided with appropriate care and support on a daily basis in terms of their physical, emotional, educational, social and recreational needs, including any personal cultural or religious beliefs.

Implement positive behavioural support plans to care for young people with complex and challenging behaviour.

Contribute to establishing and maintaining a stable, safe environment for young residents in accordance with TDP's Policies & Procedures and Department of Child Safety regulations.

Ensure service delivery is coordinated through an integrated model within TDP as well as external agencies (government and non-government).

Assist in the monitoring of general maintenance and repairs and reporting to Managers.

Record data and case notes in accordance with TDP policies and procedures and funding body requirements.

Participate in staff meetings and contribute to the development of TDP through supportive and positive working relationships with staff, clients and the community.

Participate in training and professional development relevant to TDP.

Perform other duties as directed that are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training and the scope of the employee's award classification.

As an employee, work in a healthy and safe manner and encourage others to do the same; comply with all warning and safety signage; report or rectify any unsafe conditions; adhere to workplace health and safety policies and procedures.

Day to Day care, including assistance with medication, transport, support with education and relationships.

Support clients in community, sporting & cultural activities and events.

Provide transport & support for client appointments & activities.

To be successful in this role you will possess:

A minimum 6 months experience as a youth worker and have completed or are currently undertaking relevant study (minimum Cert IV in youth work or associated field).

Residential care experience.

Support in Community & outreach experience.

TCI Training favourable.

Knowledge and understanding of the principles of client centred case management and demonstrated ability in applying such principles.

The ability to analyse complex issues relating to client case management is desirable.

Knowledge of issues facing young people who are homeless and / or facing severe barriers to achieving stability and security in their personal lives.

Knowledge and understanding of child protection systems, mandatory reporting requirements and available supports and interventions.

Skill in developing rapport and communicating with young people, families, volunteers, students, staff, management and colleagues from community agencies, including people from diverse cultural backgrounds, government and non-government organisations.

Demonstrates an understanding of client issues and is able to articulately negotiate and advocate on the client's behalf.

Ability to respond appropriately and in a timely manner to crisis situations.

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a professional team.

Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.

You are resilient, caring and passionate about providing quality care and can persevere in challenging situations.

Computer proficiency.

Suitable availability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, and be willing and able to work a roster that will include split shifts, weekend and overnight shifts.

Must hold or be willing to obtain:

Minimum Cert IV formal qualification or the ability to acquire

Valid drivers license with no restrictions

QLD working with children check (Blue Card)

National Crime Check

Current First Aid + CPR certificate

Full Comprehensive Insurance on vehicle
