What you'll do:

As a Senior Accountant based in Sydney CBD, you will play an integral role in shaping the financial landscape of the organisation. Your day-to-day activities will involve preparing comprehensive budgets and forecasts, managing month-end processes, compiling insightful reports, and actively participating in systems implementation initiatives. You will serve as a bridge between finance and other departments during project meetings, ensuring that financial perspectives are considered in every major decision. Your ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders will be crucial as you help drive process improvements and maintain compliance with evolving accounting standards. Success in this position requires not only technical proficiency but also strong interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and support ongoing professional growth within the finance function.

  • Prepare accurate budgets and forecasts by working closely with internal teams to ensure financial targets are met and resources are allocated effectively.
  • Manage the month-end close process, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly and financial statements are produced in line with organisational standards.
  • Compile detailed financial reports that provide insights into business performance and support strategic decision-making across departments.
  • Assist with the implementation of new financial systems by providing expert input on process improvements and ensuring seamless integration with existing workflows.
  • Represent the finance function at project meetings, acting as a key liaison between finance and other business units to ensure alignment on objectives and deliverables.

  • Support compliance with relevant accounting standards, including IFRS 17 where applicable, by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes.
  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements within the finance team to drive efficiency and improve accuracy in reporting.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering an environment of continuous learning and professional development.

In addition to your technical expertise, your success will be underpinned by your ability to build dependable relationships with colleagues across different functions. You understand how important it is to communicate clearly when gathering requirements or presenting findings. Your analytical mindset ensures that every report or forecast you produce is both accurate and actionable. Above all, your commitment to collaboration means you thrive when working together towards common objectives-whether mentoring junior staff or partnering with stakeholders on transformative projects.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading system implementation projects within a finance or accounting context, ideally involving complex integrations.
  • A solid background working within the insurance industry, giving you insight into sector-specific challenges and best practices.
  • Exposure to IFRS 17 standards is highly regarded, enabling you to navigate regulatory requirements confidently when needed.
  • Proven ability to manage relationships with stakeholders at all levels by communicating clearly and building trust across teams.
  • Strong analytical skills that allow you to interpret financial data accurately and provide meaningful recommendations for improvement.
  • Excellent organisational abilities that enable you to prioritise tasks effectively while meeting tight deadlines during busy periods such as month-end close.
  • A collaborative approach that fosters positive working relationships within multidisciplinary teams focused on shared goals.
