ABOUT US
Australian Veteran Health Services is a specialist occupational medical service designed to assist former and current Defence personnel plan their transition from military to civilian life. Established by Veterans for Veterans, we aim to complement established medical and ex-service organisations by assisting with DVA Claims, Permanent Impairment Assessments, Veteran Review Board (VRB) reports and ADF Transition Medicals.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Due to continued growth and increasing demand for our services we are looking for General Practitioners to provide non-acute health care to veterans both in person and via telehealth. Working from our Daw Park Clinic you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team with clinics in Brisbane and ACT. Our Medical Practitioner’s play a key role in ensuring the provision of quality health care to veterans in person, as well as in remote and rural areas. Your days will be varied, with a mix of clinical work, team management, supervision, documentation, and engagement with the community.
AVHS is accredited for OEM training and AFOEM trainees are encouraged to apply.

You are passionate about supporting veterans during a vulnerable stage in their lives, and you take pride in being approachable and trustworthy. With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you can collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders to provide holistic support to the veteran community. You are detail-oriented, committed to continuous learning, and quick to adapt to the requirements and needs of the role.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct initial and diagnostic assessments, including medical examinations.
Develop and implement medical plans in line with established protocols and guidelines.
Prepare, distribute, and review referrals to specialists and imaging companies.
Complete Permanent Impairment Assessments accurately and efficiently.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Contribute to medical research and drive the development of innovative healthcare solutions.
Maintain precise and up-to-date medical records in compliance with regulatory standards.
Provide guidance and mentorship to staff as needed
Selection Criteria
Current general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). (Essential)
Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). (Essential)
Minimum 5 years of experience in General Practice. (Essential)
Proficient in medical software and electronic health records.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
Experience in veteran mental health or military-related services.
Understanding of military culture, transition challenges, and service-related mental health conditions
