Position Summary

The Environmental Consultant / Senior Environmental Consultant at Purpose Bureau provides expert consulting, analysis, and advice on environmental impacts and best practices to a wide range of organisations in the private sector. You will work closely with client teams to assess their climate risks and performance, support the development and improvement of environmental management practices (particularly relating to greenhouse gas emissions), and advise on strategies for achieving sustainability objectives.

The role involves delivering consulting services that include analysing environmental datasets and ESG insights, developing and reviewing methodologies, and preparing environmental assessments. A core part of the position is guiding organisations on managing and reducing their environmental impact such as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, improving supply chain sustainability, and enhancing their overall environmental performance.

You will also contribute to Purpose Bureau’s proprietary data and tools to ensure they remain accurate, up to date, and aligned with emerging environmental standards and reporting frameworks.

Salary Range

$90,000-$140,000 per year plus superannuation, depending on level of experience

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Deliver environmental consulting services by analysing and advising client organisations on policies, practices, and strategies to improve their environmental performance and sustainability outcomes.

Prepare and review Scope 3 GHG emissions inventories for clients, using Purpose Bureau’s proprietary ESG datasets and tools.

Conduct assessments of supplier and supply chain climate and environmental risks, and advise clients on improving their supplier management and procurement practices to mitigate these risks.

Prepare and contribute to environmental impact analyses and assessments, such as the preparation of greenhouse gas emissions inventories, based on Purpose Bureau data and sector-specific insights.

Conduct internal assurance of environmental and ESG datasets and client-facing outputs (such as dashboards and reports) to ensure accuracy, audit readiness, and alignment with applicable standards.

Provide consulting advice to clients on emerging environmental regulations and reporting requirements, including carbon, climate risk, biodiversity, and modern slavery.

Provide technical support to clients during audit and verification processes.

Interpret environmental frameworks (e.g. GHG Protocol, Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials) and support the enhancement of Purpose Bureau’s methodologies and tools.

Review and improve internal data management processes and ESG insight generation workflows.

Maintain up-to-date documentation of Purpose Bureau methodologies and basis of preparation.

About You

You are familiar with ESG topics and enjoy working with ESG data. You are comfortable spending time working through different climate change or modern slavery datasets, tables, charts and graphs to make sure they are accurate. As you work get to know a dataset or process, you often think of ideas that can help improve it. While your primary skillset is managing ESG data, you do not mind shifting gears from time to time to help with other priorities.

Ideally, you will possess:

A desire to be part of a collaborative, dynamic team and a willingness to learn and evolve as Purpose Bureau’s products and client needs develop.

A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, data science, sustainable business, or a related field with a quantitative or analytical focus.

At least 3–5 years of consulting experience in an ESG-related role. Experience in GHG accounting, environmental risk assessment, or sustainability reporting is highly desirable.

Familiarity with emerging sustainability trends, regulatory frameworks, and corporate reporting requirements.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to advise and support clients across sectors.

High attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work independently.

Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. You are comfortable using advanced Excel functions (e.g. INDEX/MATCH, XLOOKUP, array formulas), or willing to learn.
