Nurse Practitioner – Urgent Care & Primary Health
Health Hub Springfield | Springfield Lakes, QLD
Health Hub Springfield is a general practice and Urgent Care Centre dedicated to Excellence in Healthcare. As we broaden our advanced-practice services, we are seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) with expertise in Emergency, Primary Care, or Drug & Alcohol Health to join our multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
Urgent Care (Priority Focus)
Perform rapid clinical triage of walk-in emergencies, assigning Australasian Triage Category (ATC) codes and initiating time-critical interventions.
Stabilise and treat acute presentations—e.g. chest pain, anaphylaxis, asthma exacerbations, sepsis—using accepted Advanced Life Support (ALS) protocols.
Undertake point-of-care procedures: airway management, IV cannulation/fluids, bedside ultrasound (eFAST/IV access), ECG interpretation, and wound closure (suturing, stapling, tissue adhesive).
Coordinate escalation and retrieval to tertiary EDs when criteria for transfer are met, completing comprehensive handover via ISBAR.
Primary Care & Preventive Health
Conduct comprehensive histories and physical examinations, formulating differential diagnoses and independent management plans within NP scope.
Prescribe Schedule 2–8 medicines and issue pathology/radiology referrals in line with PBS and Medicare criteria.
Develop and review GP Management Plans (GPMP), Team Care Arrangements (TCA), and Health Assessments (45–49 yr, 75+ yr, ATSI) to optimise chronic-disease outcomes.
Deliver lifestyle-medicine counselling (nutrition, exercise, smoking cessation) and coordinate allied-health referrals under Chronic Disease Management item numbers.
Orthopaedic & Musculoskeletal Care
Assess acute musculoskeletal injuries (sprains, fractures, dislocations) using Ottawa, Canadian C-Spine and other evidence-based decision rules.
Perform fracture reduction under appropriate analgesia/sedation, apply backslabs or full casts (plaster, fiberglass), and fit splints/braces.
Order and interpret X-rays/CT/MRI in consultation with on-site radiology; arrange imaging-guided injections or advanced ortho referral where indicated.
Run follow-up Fracture Clinic: monitor healing, manage cast complications, initiate rehabilitation plans, and clear patients for return to work/sport.
Immunisation & Infection Control
Plan and execute vaccine clinics (childhood NIP, influenza, COVID-19, travel) including consent, administration, Adverse Event surveillance, and AIR documentation.
Maintain cold-chain integrity (4 °C ± 2 °C) through daily logs, data-loggers, and annual audits; lead outbreak and needlestick management protocols.
Drug & Alcohol Health (if credentialed)
Provide screening (AUDIT-C, DUDIT) and brief interventions; initiate pharmacotherapies such as Buprenorphine/Naloxone or Naltrexone, and monitor compliance.
Collaborate with local AOD services for shared-care programs and relapse-prevention strategies.
Minimum Requirements
Endorsed Nurse Practitioner with current AHPRA registration.
Recent practice in at least one of: Emergency / Urgent Care, Primary Care, Drug & Alcohol.
Current ALS certification (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable Attributes
“Can-do” attitude and collaborative leadership style.
Strong communication, documentation, and patient-education skills.
Interest in service development for Infusion and Fracture Clinics.
Compensation & Schedule
$90 – $120 per hour (casual) or pro-rata salary package for permanent contracts, negotiable with experience.
Flexible 4–5-day roster, full-time or part-time, with shared evening / weekend coverage as required.
