ORGANISATIONAL OVERVIEW
Noorla Yo-Long is a branch of Blue Light SA Incorporated not-for-profit charity.
Blue Light is a Crime Reduction Initiative which aims primarily at identifying and addressing the needs of young people who are at risk.
Noorla Yo-Long is a unique life skill adventure training facility in South Australia run by an operational police officer. Located on a twenty-acre site at Rendelsham in the Limestone Coast, it has over twenty ground-based activities plus low, mid and high ropes courses and two outdoor classrooms.
Young people may be at risk because they come from a dysfunctional home, are economically disadvantaged, have come into contact with police or youth services or have been identified by parents, friends or teachers as being likely to come into contact with the juvenile justice system.
Noorla Yo-Long provides young people with the entertainment and activities in an environment free from drugs, alcohol, violence and bullying. Specially trained South Australia Police Officers, civilian South Australia Police Employees and Community Volunteers supervise the entertainment and activities conducted by the Blue Light SA camp.
SUMMARY
The position of Activities Assistant is a multi-tasked and multi-skilled adventure and general maintenance skills position accountable to the Noorla Yo-Long Program Manager. The incumbent will have a close working relationship with the program manager and other staff working within the camp. The employee would be responsible for undertaking a range of activities including assisting the manager deliver crime prevention programs to young people, work at heights and in enclosed spaces and to also take on equipment and grounds maintenance tasks ensuring a high level of customer service is provided and maintained.
The incumbent will be required to actively take on any required training to fulfil their duties.
The incumbent will be expected to provide adventure activity support as necessary and in accordance with business requirements. As new initiatives are developed the incumbent must be prepared to adapt to changing workplace practices and ways of providing support to clients.
This is a job that requires confidence in adventurous activities and a level of physicality to cope with supporting all age groups while suspended on climbing ropes. Training will be provided to enable this to occur safely under best practice.

Salary Classification Pay Guide - Amusement, Events and Recreation Award [MA000080] Work Status The incumbent must hold a current Australian Work Eligibility Status and will be subject to a criminal history and working with children/vulnerable groups check. Incumbent may be assigned to other duties at this remuneration level or equivalent.

Qualifications Diploma of Outdoor Leadership or Certificate 2 or higher in Outdoor Recreation is desirable, practical skills in general grounds and building maintenance are desirable.

REPORTING & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The incumbent is directly accountable to the police officer who is the site manager, however on a day-to-day basis the incumbent may be required to report to another supervising police officer. They will also be expected to be able to work unsupervised on general maintenance tasks, problem solving issues and taking responsibility for self-generated tasks.
KEY OUTCOMES
To provide an effective and efficient program facilitator support to the program manager along with customer service by undertaking a variety of key tasks as required, which may include:
Working with young people of all ages without discrimination, to provide the best training outcomes, life skills and leadership coaching results for the clients.
Being a positive representative of Blue Light and by default, South Australia Police, in all dealings with clients, contractors and members of the public.
Assessing requests, providing advice and undertaking follow up enquiries.
Providing administrative services such as equipment audits and records management.
Audits and documentation of issues with activity structures, their surrounds and all climbing and other ancillary equipment with efficient notification to the site manager.
Assist in maintaining the site asset register.
Maintaining the physical facilities including property, equipment maintenance and consumables in accordance with SAPOL’s and Blue Light SA purchasing and supply guidelines
Providing a professional customer service to the public and police personnel and offer information and/or assistance as appropriate.
Assisting with the induction of contractors to the camp.
Comply with the requirements of a safe working environment.
Ensure the provision of the highest standards of professional customer service to clients at all levels through effective customer communication and through timely and appropriate responses to customer enquiries.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
Essential Minimum Requirements
Personal experience in outdoor adventure activities, must be able to join in adventure climbing and potentially caving.
Current Police Check and Working with Children/Vulnerable Groups Check
Current Provide First Aid certificate
Ability to professionally communicate to all levels of management and personnel and respond appropriately to the needs of customers and client groups
Ability to work both as an individual and part of a multi-disciplinary team and achieve agreed objectives
Work with groups of all ages, especially children, including those in the juvenile justice system and those with special needs
Ability to coordinate and prioritise own workload and when required, that of other team members
Ability to problem solve and undertake minor research tasks as delegated
Possess a high level of personal integrity and credibility and maintain confidentiality
Proven experience in outdoor adventure industries and youth leadership
Knowledge of the principles of Equity and Diversity requirements
Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to WH&S legislation, principles and practices; and risk assessment in accordance with the WH&S Act 2012, Regulations, approved codes of practice and AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009 Risk Management - Principles and Guidelines.
