About Mental Health Division:

Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern.

Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles.

We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.


About the Role:

NWAMHS Merri-bek Community Team is searching for a Consumer Peer Support Worker to join our team. We are located centrally in Coburg - close to Public Transport and parking options.

The Merri-bek Community team is a large, supportive and dynamic team made up of staff that are truly passionate and motivated in supporting consumers and their families/carers. We provide a comprehensive range of specialist mental health services to people who reside in the local government areas of Moreland and Hume.

Utilising a peer support model, the Consumer Peer Support Worker utilises their own lived experience to provide peer support and information to mental health consumers linked to our community team. The Peer Support worker supports consumers to navigate the mental health system/community supports and supports consumers to maximise their recovery and resilience. The Peer Support Workers provide an afterhours support once per week (Thursdays until 8pm) within the peer led after hours group (5 ways café).

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Been or are a first-hand user of mental health services
  • A desire to lead and support others
  • Ability to contribute of your unique range of personal skills and knowledge to the consumer group at the 5 Ways cafe, during groups and activities/appointments held during usual operating hours;
  • A desire to connect, nurture and support the journey of other consumers
  • Formal qualifications with relevance to Consumer Peer Work are desirable but not essential
