About the role
South West Healthcare (SWH) is seeking a Consumer Peer Support Worker to join our Hamilton Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing Service. The purpose of the position is to provide peer support to consumers; to be involved in their treatment and recovery planning and to participate in providing support and education to the consumer.
The peer support workers understanding of the needs of consumers derives primarily from their lived experience and compliments the professional knowledge and skills of the clinical staff. This is a vital part of support and working together effectively with the consumer.
Position overview
- Employment Type: Part-time (40 hours per fortnight), On-going position
- Location: Hamilton Campus
- Classification: Lived Experience Worker Level 2
- Salary Range: $68,874.00 - $73,065.20 pro rata, plus superannuation
This position is eligible for an incentive payment for rent, childcare, relocation costs and more, as part of the new workforce and incentive grants program administered by Rural Agency Workforce Victoria (RWAV) up to $10,000.
What you bring
- Lived experience of consumer' needs in mental health issues and has an established knowledge of the impacts of mental illness on the consumer
- Working Knowledge of Recovery Oriented Practice, Trauma Informed Care, Strengths Model
- A willingness to undertake Intentional Peer Support Training if have not already done so
- Evidence of exercising basic problem-solving skills to deal with complex needs of consumers
- Understanding of and commitment to South West Healthcare values and the values of consumer peer work
