The Perry family operate a dairy enterprise which is located 2 km’s from the township of Tatura in Northern Victoria, milking 650 friesian cows in a 50 bale rotary shed with ACR's, calving three times a year.
The farm consists of approximately 200ha with 140ha irrigated and a support block of 200ha.
We are searching for a senior farmhand/2IC who can help support the owners with the day to day running of the enterprise, including the health and safety of the team, have a focus on animal welfare and ensuring our milk is of the highest quality.
Work-life balance with a full time roster available up to a maximum average of 45-50 work hours per week (4 days off per fortnight)
Remuneration package based on level of skills and experience (base salary approximately $75k annually plus super for a 50 hour contract)
On farm accommodation is available
Key Responsibilities – duties may include but are not limited to:
Milk Harvesting – Manage the entire milking process following our milking procedures, identifying and treating cow health issues and overseeing cleaning procedures
Animal Husbandry – Treat common cattle ailments, monitor calving cows, assist veterinarians when/if required, manage feeding programs, oversee calf management.
Reproduction Management – In conjunction with farm management, develop the reproduction programs and implement them, including joining programs, heat detection, pregnancy testing and culling decisions
Administration – Maintain herd records, using Easy Dairy in conjunction with SenseHub cow collars, oversee drug and dairy consumables and provide updates to farm management
Plant Equipment and Infrastructure maintenance – Manage the maintenance of the dairy to the required standards, ensuring it’s kept in a clean and functional manner. Assist the farm maintenance manager in overseeing maintenance programs for vehicles, equipment, buildings and paddock infrastructure
Requirements:
Proven experience with larger herd management including heat detection, animal health, milk quality and calf rearing
Strong understanding of dairy farming practices, animal husbandry and herd management software
Excellent leadership and communication skills (must speak fluent English), with the ability to lead and work within the team
Ability to balance hands-on farm work with managerial responsibilities, demonstrating adaptability and effective time management
A genuine passion for sustainable farming, animal welfare and farm safety
Must have an Australian drivers licence and your own vehicle
The successful applicant will be required to have a Diploma or at least 3 years relevant work experience
