About this opportunity:

Lead and coordinate civil operations + maintenance teams so every asset runs effectively, reliably and safely and that our service standards stay rock-solid.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Operations & Maintenance: Plan, schedule, and execute work on water and wastewater assets, ensuring no disruptions for customers.
  • People & Culture: Mentor field crews and contractors to excel in their roles, upgrade their qualifications, and continuously improve.
  • Risk & Reliability: Identify and address vulnerabilities before they become problems-eliminate or engineer them away.
  • Safety & Environment: Promote zero-harm behaviours and eco-friendly practices, leading by example on site.
  • Financial Stewardship: Develop, monitor, and report on OPEX/CAPEX budgets, maximizing the value of every dollar.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure all work adheres to Council policies, Acts, Codes, and Australian Standards.
  • Tech Authority: Be the go-to expert for complex hydraulic issues, asset failures, and data-driven solutions.
  • Business Documentation: Create tenders, estimates, project plans, and EOIs that secure funding and recognition.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Effective personnel management and leadership skills. The ability to direct, supervise and develop teams and individuals
  • Demonstrated timely and cost-effective delivery of engineering projects in both civil asset installation and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of equipment relevant to Mackay Water & Waste infrastructure assets.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers with the ability to operate a range of business and information management systems including word processors, spreadsheets, databases, financial systems and Internet and communication technologies.
  • Relevant Trade Qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in the Water industry.
  • Construction Industry General Induction Card.

Desirable

  • Diploma of Civil Engineering.
  • Nationally accredited business qualification at Certificate IV level or higher.
