About the role
Mater Health is seeking those looking to work full time as Senior House Officer’s within our Emergency Department, to provide medical care under the supervision and direction of Registrars and Senior Medical staff, on a maximum term basis in 2026 for 12months.
This is your opportunity to grow as a clinician in a high-acuity, diverse, and supportive learning environment, with access to world-class education, mentorship. ACEM trainees will also have access to specialist rotations in ICU, anaesthetics, paediatrics, obstetrics and ultrasound.
We are recruiting 14 SHO’s for our South Brisbane Campus and 12 SHO’s for our Springfield Campus. You may be based at either facility for your contract or rotated across both sites. Springfield Emergency is expected to open in the latter half of 2026.
Salary range: $49.97 - $53.65 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
- Responsible for assessment and management of patients attending the emergency department for care, under the guidance of Senior Medical officers and Registrars
- Prioritise clinical care - maximising patient safety and maintaining patient flow
- Liaise with families, carers, and other health professionals involved in care of patients
- Assist, teach and participate in technical procedures within the Department.
- Act to contain spread of infection and comply with Hospital infection control guidelines.
- Comply with expected standards in documentation.
- Attend relevant Orientation Programs.
- Maintain professional standards through programmes, workshops, seminars
- Preparation of medico-legal, compensation and insurance documentation.
- Report clinical incidents and adverse events.
- Auditing of clinical outcomes pertinent to Emergency Medicine.
- Comply with human resource management issues including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination as applied in the working environment.
About you
To be considered for a position applicant should:
- Be eligible for General or Provisional Registration with AHPRA.
- Have at least 2-year relevant clinical postgraduate experience in Australia or a Country of Competent Authority according to AHPRA
- Prior Emergency experience is desirable, but not compulsory
