Successful candidate will be mentored by Principal OT, Anne Basedow, with 39 years’ experience and our Senior OT Brooke Coney.
About us: At Making Sense OT, we are committed to enhancing the lives of Autistic individuals as well as those with other neurodiversity including, ADHD, and developmental delay by providing tailored, evidence-based intervention and support. Our team comprises dedicated professionals who collaborate to create a positive and nurturing environment for our clients to thrive in. We work in natural environments, including childcare centres, preschools, schools, and homes. This way we can engage the adults in the child's life and provide them with strategies to use in between the OT sessions.
The children you will work with are between 3 and 18 years of age. You will see children who are funded by NDIS, the Department of Child Protection and those who are privately funded.
The team is led by Anne Basedow who has 39 years’ experience working as an OT in Adelaide and mentoring OTs to become the best therapist they can be.
Ongoing support in your development as an OT is very important to us,
You will have the following support
· Anne Basedow and Brooke Coney will work alongside you for the first 2 weeks or as required and provide you with all the tools that you need to conduct the OT sessions. This includes therapy plans and materials for the sessions.
· You will have weekly supervision to discuss your caseload and any challenges you are experiencing. Also, ongoing joint visits with Anne and Brooke to help you with any challenges you may face.
· You will meet weekly for team meetings with the other OTs, during which we discuss any recent training or case studies.
· The team has regular breakfasts together, dinners and other social activities during the year.
Responsibilities
· Conduct thorough assessments of children to identify their strengths, challenges, and intervention needs. You will be shown how to carry out these assessments and provide report templates for you to use. We use tools such as the Movement ABC 3, Beery VMI, Vineland, Sensory Processing Measure 2.
· Develop personalised treatment plans focused on improving functional skills, sensory integration, motor coordination, and daily living activities.
· Implement a variety of evidence-based therapeutic techniques and strategies to address sensory sensitivities, fine and gross motor skills, self-regulation, and social participation.
· Collaborate with other therapists, educators, and caregivers to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to intervention.
· Monitor and document client progress, adjusting intervention plans to ensure continuous improvement.
· Provide one on one education and training to parents, caregivers, and other professionals to promote consistent strategies and support outside of therapy sessions.
· Stay up to date with the latest research and developments in the field of occupational therapy to ensure best practices are being implemented.
· Continued in-house Professional Development will align with your CPD plan each year and will be paid for by MSOT.
Qualifications
· Approved qualification in Occupational Therapy and AHPRA registration
· Current drivers’ licence and use of own vehicle and mobile phone
· Working with children check
· NDIS Worker Check
· Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
· Empathy, patience and a genuine passion for working with children.
· Some knowledge and experience working with individuals with Autism is a plus.
