Location: Site-Based (FIFO 8:6 Swing)
Salary: $120,000 - $130,000 plus superannuation
Roster: 8 days on / 6 days off swing roster (with 5:2 option available)

About the Opportunity

Our client, a leading mining operation, is seeking an experienced IT Communications Technician to join their site-based team. This is an exciting role for a technically skilled individual to manage the installation, maintenance, and support of critical communications infrastructure across remote mining sites.

The successful candidate will work closely with the client's IT team, contractors, and site departments to ensure reliable and effective communications capability, supporting projects such as camp expansions, office relocations, and new facility rollouts. The role also involves general IT support duties, including workstation setup and network troubleshooting.

This position offers a unique chance to work independently in a safety-sensitive, remote environment while building expertise in both IT and communications disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure all work complies with workplace safety policies and environmental regulations, actively promoting a safe work environment.

Install, terminate, and test copper and fibre data cabling.

Maintain and organise communications racks, patch panels, cable trays, and network cabinets.

Deploy and support wireless infrastructure, including WiFi, Ubiquiti radios, and microwave links.

Provide hands-on support during communications outages or faults.

Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance of communications hardware.

Assist with provisioning and maintenance of VHF radios (Motorola).

Maintain IT documentation, asset registers, and spare parts inventory.

Coordinate and supervise communications-related work conducted by contractors.

Provide Level 1/2 IT support to site users and assist with workstation provisioning.

Support office relocations and desk moves to ensure IT connectivity.

Assist in scoping and delivering infrastructure components of site IT projects.

Liaise with vendors and third-party providers as necessary.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

Relevant communications cabling certification (e.g., Open Cabler Registration)

Manual driver's licence

Experience with data cabling and communications infrastructure installation and support

Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (IP, VLANs, DHCP, routing)

Proficient with tools and materials for low-voltage cabling

Willingness to assist with general IT support tasks

Ability to work independently in remote, safety-focused environments

Strong communication skills and ability to engage with multiple stakeholders

Desirable:

ICT tertiary qualification or equivalent trade/technical background

Certifications for working at heights and confined spaces

Experience in mining or remote industrial environments

Familiarity with Ubiquiti, Cisco, or enterprise networking systems

Knowledge of Motorola VHF communications systems

Experience with CCTV, microwave radio, PTP links, or WiFi mesh systems

Support experience with SCADA, radio communications, or OT systems

Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, Azure, and Office 365

Exposure to mining software such as Pronto, Deswik, Surpac, or Micromine

Awareness of cybersecurity principles and practices

Additional Information

This is a FIFO role on an 8:6 swing roster, with an alternative 5:2 roster available.

Salary banding for this position is between $120,000 and $130,000 plus superannuation.

The successful candidate will be expected to travel regularly between sites and work independently in remote conditions.
