Are you passionate about supporting multicultural communities and making a real difference?
Sunraysia Mallee Ethnic Communities Council (SMECC) is looking for a dedicated Bi-Cultural Worker to join our team in Robinvale.
This unique role bridges cultures, strengthens trust, and supports the wellbeing of local Multicultural communities. If you have bilingual skills, lived experience of migration, or a strong connection to local community networks, we want to hear from you!
🌏 About SMECC
For over 45 years, SMECC has supported migrants, refugees and CALD communities across the Sunraysia region. We deliver programs in resettlement, advocacy, youth and family support, education, employment, food security, and more. Our mission is to empower multicultural communities to participate fully in social and economic life.
🧭 About the Role
As a Bi-Cultural Worker, you will:
Act as a cultural connector and community advocate.
Support culturally safe and inclusive service delivery.
Share information in accessible and culturally appropriate ways.
Help community members navigate services and systems.
Build trust with clients, stakeholders and partner organisations.
Facilitate programs, workshops, and events.
Contribute to a more inclusive, equitable society.
✅ What You’ll Bring
Essential:
Bilingual or multilingual skills (including English and at least one community language).
Strong knowledge of local community networks and issues.
Experience working with multicultural communities or in community leadership.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Understanding of systems like justice, health, housing, education or employment.
Basic computer and digital literacy.
Commitment to diversity, inclusion and community-led work.
Desirable:
Relevant qualifications (community services, social work, education, etc.).
Experience with settlement, youth, food security or digital literacy programs.
Lived experience of migration or refugee background.
Trauma-informed approach and awareness.
📝 Other Requirements
Working with Children Check (if applicable).
National Police Check.
Flexibility to travel and occasional out-of-hours work.
