Our Organisation

The Benevolent Society’s vision is to build a just society where all Australians can live their best life. For more than 200 years we have supported people at the margins of society: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians; children, young people, and their families; older people; carers and people with disability. We are an independent, non-religious service provider which supports people to live life their way.

As part of The Benevolent Society's vision, we are strongly committed to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Australia. We remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting the economic, political, and social inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

About the role

Family and Child Connect is a Queensland Government funded initiative aimed at ensuring vulnerable families and children have access to high-quality services at the right time to help them to maintain the family unit. Family and Child Connect is a community-based intake and referral service, established across Queensland to support families who are at risk of entering or re-entering the child protection system and to help families to care for and protect their children at home.

As our Intake Worker you will act as a first point of contact for families accessing our service. You will provide timely and effective contact, advice and referral services with the aim of increasing the safety of children and reducing the risk of children entering out of home care.

Duties

  • Availability from 9am – 5:30pm Monday – Friday to fulfil program contract requirements (this includes time towards accrual of an ADO)
  • Assess family’s suitability for engagement based on program eligibility criteria and program model & guidelines. Explore options with clients to support them to make informed choices to address their immediate needs, utilising client self-determination.
  • Answer phone lines for FaCC Beenleigh/Bayside & Logan and provide information to support clients to access appropriate resources and services, both within The Benevolent Society and with external agencies and service providers.
  • Process all referrals for both FaCC services received through the online portal. Triage incoming referrals and phone calls to determine appropriate FaCC response (i.e. managing the matter at intake, or processing referral for allocation to a Child & Family Practitioner for case work).
  • Confidence in engaging with voluntary and involuntary clients.
  • Provide information to external services of appropriate supports in the community to assist families.
  • Participate in community engagement and networking opportunities, which might look like representing FaCC at community events, attending meetings with other services, completing service visits to promote FaCC.
  • Assess and respond to safety concerns and risk of harm when processing referrals and responding to phone calls from community members.
