Role Overview
This is a hands-on, detail-focused drafting role supporting substation projects across data centre developments. It requires a drafter who can develop and review protection schematics and detailed wiring diagrams for high voltage environments - particularly secondary systems.
This role does not require an engineering degree although if they are a engineer & drafter they will be paid accordingly - what matters is practical ability and autonomous design drafting experience in 2D CAD on Secondary

Key Responsibilities

• Create and interpret protection schematics and wiring diagrams
• Assemble, present, and QA designs with engineers for review
• Participate in design reviews and cross-check others' work for accuracy and standards
• Apply internal standards and drafting methods across secondary system designs
• Draft scopes of work and update documentation throughout the lifecycle of each project

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in secondary systems drafting (schematics + wiring)
• 2D CAD proficiency (AutoCAD or similar)
• Comfortable working closely with Protection Engineers to validate and iterate on designs
• High attention to detail and quality (QA experience desirable)
• Utility or infrastructure sector experience (power, rail, water, etc.)
• Backgrounds in control/automation, traction substations, or process facilities acceptable
• Able to work mostly independently and produce high-quality drawings with minimal supervision

Ideal Candidate Profile

• 5-10+ years' drafting experience in HV or utility environments
• Not reliant on an engineer to mark-up drawings - can generate designs from specifications or examples
• Practical and process-driven; often self-taught or trade-qualified rather than formally degreed
• Melbourne-based preferred, though flexible for high performers
• Comfortable QA-checking peer designs and offering constructive feedback
