• Full time ongoing position (part-time considered)
• Salary range: $110,357 - $127,333 (pro rata) plus super plus salary packaging

About the role
Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is seeking a Senior Lawyer to join our team. In this role, you will provide high quality legal services, represent clients, and conduct casework in family law and family violence including intervention order matters.

You will also work as a duty lawyer in the Magistrates Court of Victoria and the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, including the Family Advocacy and Support Services (FASS) pilot project. You will mentor and train junior lawyers, help develop legal education programs and take part in policy and law reform projects.

There is also an opportunity to provide legal services in child protection and undertake Independent Children's Lawyer work.

If you live in the Southeast region, this role could be a great fit for you. The ideal candidate will be responsible for primarily supporting communities in the Gippsland region, with regular travel for outreach and engagement.

This role ideally will be based at our Morwell or Bairnsdale office on Gunai Kurnai Country however if you live in the South East and are keen for travel across the region consideration will be given to South East locations.

About you
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

• Strong knowledge of family law and family violence with experience in relevant court processes.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse clients, particularly those facing social and economic disadvantage.
• The ability to supervise and mentor junior legal staff and contribute to the development of training and educational programs.
• Independent Children's Law experience is welcome.
• A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
• Entitled to practise in federal courts and courts exercising federal jurisdiction (entry on the High Court's Register of Practitioners) (mandatory).
