Preadmission Nurse- Rosebud Day Hospital

We are looking for a pre-admission nurse as part of a perioperative team at Direct Endoscopy to undertake preoperative assessments of people receiving care associated with a planned day surgery procedure.

The RN liaises as required with the VMOs, anaesthetists, GPs, patients and families, either by email, phone interview or direct contact to collect pertinent patient health history; thus, providing education, support, and guidance to patients/individuals for the management of their health and recovery.

This role is for 2 days a week- Mondays and Thursdays.

Key Responsibilities

Practice appropriate telephone and patient triage skills, being aware of the need to balance quality care with efficient use of time and resources.

Perform preadmission patient screening prior to admission – via email, telephone and communicate information to appropriate team members.

Ensure that pre-operative care requirements of patients are accomplished through use of the nursing process including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.

Perform patient teaching/education as established by the organisation.

Assess health history information, plan, implement, and document interventions and evaluate results.

Maintain and promote patient’s safety by assessing physical and psychological needs.

Respond to telephone/email inquiries regarding expressed needs of patients.

Perform outbound follow-up calls as required.

Alert anaesthetist/clinical staff of results of labs, physical assessment, or special needs of individuals with medical problems prior to date of surgery

Key Selection Criteria

Mandatory Qualifications:

Registered with AHPRA

Bachelor of Nursing

Essential:

Annual BLS competency

Valid National Police Check

Desirable:

Experience in an administrative nursing role.

Experience in Day Surgery nursing.

Acute care, surgical, and day hospital experience demonstrating clinical competence in nursing practice.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Detail orientation with exceptional organisational and time management skills.

Excellent computer literacy including proficiency with electronic medical records.

Professional self-awareness and maintains accountability.

Knowledge and experience of the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards Accreditation process.

Sound computer literacy in desktop applications and patient management systems.
