Description We’re seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Legal Counsel to provide expert guidance on a broad range of legal matters. In this role, you’ll partner closely with leadership to manage risk, support business growth, and ensure compliance across our operations. If you have strong commercial acumen, a proactive mindset, and a solid background in corporate law, we’d love to hear from you.
This is a 12-month fixed term contract based in Sydney.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on complex matters involving property and conveyancing law, including the development of digital conveyancing tools and automated legal workflows.
- Provide legal support on financial services compliance, including consumer protection, AML/CTF, and ASIC/AFSL regulatory frameworks.
- Oversee and advise on privacy and data protection obligations, ensuring the company and its products comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and emerging global standards.
- Draft and negotiate a range of commercial agreements, including master services agreements, SaaS contracts, service-level agreements, and data-sharing arrangements.
- Collaborate with the product and engineering teams to ensure legal compliance is embedded into the product development lifecycle.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments, proactively managing risk and identifying opportunities for innovation.
- Support internal legal operations, including risk management, policy development, and corporate governance.
- Perform other related duties as required or requested
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Qualified to practice law in Australia
- At least 7 years (post qualification) gained at a full-service law firm or inhouse position in either a Professional Services Company or Technology Company.
- Corporate experience working in a commercial setting
- Excellent knowledge and experience negotiating commercial agreements, outsourcing, third- party risk management and privacy compliance, and be willing to work on a wide variety of issues.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a time sensitive manner.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is critical.
- Be pragmatic, versatile, flexible and collaborative with strong analytical, written and oral communication skills and excellent judgment.
